Europe

Most nations on the EU are open to vaccinated travellers from the UK, provided they have proof of vaccination. For unvaccinated travellers, testing prior to travel is mandatory. Here is a list of popular holiday destinations in Europe and their testing requirements, simplified, just for you.

Ireland

Ireland is open to travellers, with further easing of norms likely. If you are travelling to Ireland and happen to be unvaccinated, you need to submit a negative RT-PCR test result within 72 hours prior to arrival in the country. Children under the age of 12 are exempted.

Spain

Spain is open to travellers from EU and Schengen member countries. For unvaccinated adults and children above 12 years of age, negative Covid-19 Antigen test result (48 hours prior to travel) or negative NAAT test (including RT-PCR, LAMP) taken not more than 72 hours prior to travel is a must. This also applies to the Canary and Balearic Islands.

France

Italy

Unvaccinated adults and children above 6 years, who have been in the UK in the previous 14 days, must produce a negative antigen or RT-PCR test taken a maximum of 48 hours prior to travel to Italy.

Greece

Travellers to Greece must produce a negative RT-PCR test report not older than 72 hours or a Rapid Antigen test report taken a maximum of 48 hours before travel. Children aged below 12 need not carry a negative test report. There may be rapid Covid-19 test upon landing in Greece.

Germany

UK travellers aged 12 years and over, who are unvaccinated, must present a negative RT-PCR test result done a maximum of 72 hours prior to travel or negative Antigen test report taken a maximum of 48 hours prior to travel. Antigen tests done in the UK must meet the ≥90% sensitivity and ≥97% specificity criteria.

Portugal

Travellers from the UK who are unvaccinated must produce a negative Covid-19 test taken 72 hours prior to travel in case of RT-PCR and 48 hours prior in case of Rapid Antigen test. The Antigen test must meet the performance standard of the EU common list of Rapid Antigen Tests. Children below 12 are exempted from this.

Netherlands

For people travelling from the UK to the Netherlands aged 12 years or over, a negative PCR test taken a maximum of 48 hours prior to travel or an Antigen test taken 24 hours before travel is permitted. Vaccinated individuals are not exempted from testing.

Switzerland

UK travellers over 16 years must produce a negative RT PCR test taken not more than 72 hours prior to travel or a Rapid Antigen test taken not more than 48 hours before departure. Children under the age of 16 are exempted from testing.

Norway

Unvaccinated individuals i.e., those travelling without a QR coded English or Welsh NHS Covid Pass will be allowed entry into Norway only if they present a negative Covid-19 RT-PCR or Rapid Antigen test taken not more than 24 hours prior to departure. Children below the age of 12 are exempted from testing.

Iceland

Irrespective of vaccination status, all travellers except children born in 2005 or later must produce a negative PCR test taken 72 hours prior to travel.

Romania

Travellers with a negative RT-PCR test taken 72 hours prior to boarding or arriving at the Romanian border are exempted from quarantine if they leave within 72 hours of their arrival. If a child between the age of 3 to 16 years is travelling independently, he/she can be exempted from quarantine provided they present a negative RT-PCR test taken 72 hours before boarding or arrival.
